From Kenya:
Hello,
I am a girl from Hillcrest Secondary School in Nairobi, Kenya where
you
spoke today. I would firstly like to say thank you, you were not
only an
inspiration, but I really admire that you are giving up two years
of your
life going around the world talking to people. Your approach to
the topic
was wonderful, never before have I heard anyone talk on the subject
as
effectively. It must have been especially hard as you were speaking
to a
young audience.
I, too, am planning to go to the USA for university (Stanford) and
thereafter pursue a career in helping others -some sort of charity
or
otherwise- I'm not sure exactly what though!
Seeing as I have some holidays coming soon, I was wondering if you
could
give me the addresses or contact details of some co-workers in Kenya
so I
could started straight away. I have worked with charity organisations
in
Nairobi before as a volunteer, but sadly, I'm often put of by how
comercial
and busness-like the atmosphere in Nairobi is. I found that often,
out of a
donated $10, only $2 or $3 would reach the people it is intended
to reach!
So I have resorted to offer only voluntary services over the weekends!
So, if it isn't too much to ask, could you please tell me how I
could
contact Dr. Lyn who you met in Durban (I "think" it was called
the "United States AIDS awareness org.), who was with you during
your talk.
Thank you very much,
Nivedita Mukherjee, (Nairobi, Kenya)
From Cambodia:
"Hi Dr. John

The volunteers miss you. They imitate your great example. please
see the attached file so that you see volunteers works in Cambodia.
We love you and pray for you. Take care and keep in touch.
Any adivice for us.
Sincerely

"Dear Dr. Chittick, Hi my name is Adda, and I am a 14 year
old girl living in Santa Barbara, California. I read your story
in Seventeen, then visited your website and was amazed about everything
you have done to prevent the spread of the AIDS epidemic among youth,
and basically was wondering if there is any way I could get invovled.
I am starting high school this september and know that no such AIDS
prevention program that exists at the high school level, or that
students can get involved in. Best wishes on your journey and if
there is anything else I could do to help please let me know. You
are trully saving lives, I just hope you know that, thank you. Sincerely,
Adda"
From Indonesia:
Dear John,
Hope you're already back to the "e-mail world"! How's the situation
in
China's hinterland? Anyway, I'm sure you got so many new perspectives
and
ideas to share with friends all over the world. I'm waiting for
your review
on China. We're here so pleased to get your mails, copies
of articles, and photos... India, Africa, Vietnam. You ARE really
tough and patient!
We are doing fine here .. Yes, you will be glad to hear this progress.
We already have three drop-in centers now and there are peer-educators
and out-reach workers approach street kids, homeless teenagers,
and kids prostitutes who have problems with drugs aswell. Very demanding
jobs! But we like the challenges... So please take care of
yourself now. God bless you. And we're looking forward to hearing
from you soon!

"Dear John, I am sure you remember the day when you have
been to the University of Havana. You talked to everybody about
the most helpful methods to fight against AIDS, the illnes that
takes away a part of my live every day. I was one of these
people who was listening to you talking about this illness. The
love and truth that is speaking out of every word makes me feel
that you are still belevening in salvation. I am studying
law (3rd year) and I am writing you to say thank you for your freindship.
Take care of you and go on helping to save lives. Yours hopefully,

From Brazil:
"Dear Dr. John, How are you? Here everything is fine. You
means a lot to me 'cause with you I could learn how to help people
and how to look at life from another point of view. Your work really
impressed me and inspired me to help people as a voluntary.
I hope you can meet lots of young people and give them support just
like you were doing here in Brasil and also meet voluntary people
and change their lives just like you did to mine! I'm very
gratefull for this! Thank you VERY MUCH for being part of
my life! Please, e-mail me when you could. Tell me about other
places you are visiting. You are very special to me! From
your friend. Camila Braz"
From Philippines:
"Dear Dr. John, Thank you very much for the postcard and for remembering
us. I am very fine and presently teaching at National Teachers
College, High School Department, the school wherein you talked about
AIDS two years ago. As fruit to the effort that you have shown
us, the school is regularly giving information about HIV and AIDS.
Thanks for the big help. May you be blessed by God for the
service you always render other people. i am eagerly anticipating
your return bye!!! good luck to your global walk. Very truly
yours, Enver Campo"
From Somewhere:
"It is nice to know someone like you is out there. I am 20 years
old and I am HIV positive. I have been aware of this status since
my 18th birthday. I am very interested in being a peer educator
and letting people know that HIV/AIDS is happening and anyone can
be a victim... If you could send me any information about the PeerCorps
I would greatly appreciate it. I am willing to devote myself to
this cause so that I can prevent anyone from being in the same situation
as I."
Unknown:
"I still canít believe you came to visit us. At first, I
wondered why you wanted to talk with me and my friends because I
donít just talk to strangers. I was very lucky to be part of your
group. Yesterday I talked to my cousin and she didnít even know
about AIDS and like, what to do. Now she does. You have opened up
new aspects in my life. I truly and greatly love being part of the
PeerCorps. It is such a great feeling knowing you are helping to
maybe save a life; something so precious that at times we take for
granted. I Thank You!!!!!!"
Dear Dr. John,
I read your article in Seventeen and I just wanted to say thanx!
What you are doing is incredible and needed. I am 5 and I
practice safe sex and that is the outcome of being educated about
all the STD's (sexually-transmitted diseases). Sex is supposed
to be something that is free and that two people can share to say
that they love each other but unfortunately it's not free and there
is a big price to pay if you're no protected. I would just
like to let you know that you are helping a lot of people.
If there is anyway to join your team I'd love to. Please
let me know how I can help. I don't have money to give but
I would be a hard worker.
Thanx a bunch,
Leandra
Dear Dr. Chittick,
Today when I was at the Mall, flipped through the Seveenteen Magazine,
the article about your trip to Vietnam to educate teenagers there
about AIDS caught my eyes. I felt very nice inside when I
read the article. I think you have done a very great and wonderful
task by traveling to thedeveloping countries to educate teenagers
about he disease. I admire you for being so brave to put such
a challenge task onto your shoulder. Being raise in a developing
country like my other teenagers, I was not taught anything about
sexuality or AIDS since it's almost like aTaboo to talk about it.
Therefore, most of teenagers grow up there have little to no knowledge
of how to protect themselves from the disease. The reason
why I am writing you this letter is because I just want to let you
know that I really admire your work and that I would like
to help out and be part of the helping hands. Thanks
for reading my letter.
Sincerely,
Camnga H. Thach
Dear Dr. Chittick,
I would like to let you know how comforting it is to know that there
are pepoel out there who really care and understand. This
is my first time coming to this site and already I feel less alone.

Dear Dr. Chittick,
I read what is HIV/AIDS but I still do not understand what it is
that HIV is in a Non-scientific way. Is HIV the beginning
of the AIDS virus as I have a friend who is HIV positive and I would
really like to know s he dying or is it going to go away.
I love him so much and don't want him to die this world is so horrible
to take life from somebody so young. I want his life to continue
i would like for you to tell me...
Michael

Dr. John,
Thank you for your advice, it meant a lot to me. It seems
that you really care about us because if it would've been someone
esle that I might of told they probally would have told me i don't
care that is your problem. Eve if it is my own fault and problem
it shows that also there is someone out there that really cares.
Thank You for your advice and also for your concern. I really
appreciate it. Hope to hear from you again.
P.S. When will we meet again? I really want to start
working on that stop action.

"Hello, sorry for not writting you earlier but i've been quite
busy lately geting ready for the summer and stuff. like getting
a job and finnishing the school year. Anyways I had really appreciated
it when you bought me dinner at wendy's that time and i'm very thankfull
for it. yeah so how are you doing? where are you now and where are
you going next? i've got to tell you that your speech that
you did in front of our school didnt only get to the students. our
grade 9 english teacher had just found out that one of her closest
friends had a very high chance of getting aids and that his girlfriend
had it for sure. so it kinda got to her quite deeply because she
never thought that her close friend like that would get it. anyways

From Russia:
"Hello, Thisz me Ivan from Moscow school (if you remember
me). Don't pay attention to gramma in my letters (it's not allright).
You know, i wanna thank you, cuz you really help me. Maybe you understand
thet one of the main theme in our discussions is kisses, sometimes
sex, sometimes some parts of our body (oops..). Am i right, if one
my friend says:"Wow... look at her i'd like to (Ya know something
like a french kiss? WE called it "Zasos") have a zasos with her!"
And i rteplied-"Wait, think first, then do what you wanna do!"
From Brazil:
"My mom and I were talking about the issue and we realized our
city doesn't have enough organizations to treat HIV/AIDS. Brazil
is the only country in the world that gives free treatment to EVERYONE,
but in our city, capital of the estate and regional metropolis,
this help sort of lacks. My mother wants to know what can she do,
but I didn't know the answer. Can everybody be part of the program
or do you have to be a teen? Do you have to be by yourself "peering",
or can you stablish on office...? Leonardo Sampaio, Fortaleza -

"Hello Dr. Jhon Chittick, Remember me? I was sitting just in front
of you, dressed in a blue jacket, short-haired, a little beard on
my cheeks...with a rapt look on my face...we shook hands twice and
you asked for my name which in fact is Angel (may be sounding unusual
to an American) it was just today from 10:10 to 10:57 before noon.
I hardly dare think you could have remembered me 'cause there are
so many students you talk to...anyway i wanted to share my enjoyment
from the talk. It was both interesting and instructive to me. I'm
sure anyone else would express my opinion... Good luck and may less
people catch AIDS in the future."
From Uganda:
"Dr.John i perticularly remember your visit to Uganda ,how
is yuo life as per now .I thank God for sacrificial men like you.
In deed when you reach out on a very serious subject like AIDs,
glory all the heavenly blessings upon your life. I applied
the words i got you to help some youth out there but to my personal
observation soo many youth still get infected the major course perhaps
being poverty since since a great percentage of them are jobless
and live bellow povertyline. bye-bye,Arose
From South Africa:

morning. yesterday i was in Pataya. Mr. Aid, you should
be there. that is a very right place for you to walk. i am
ok. i will have tested again next month when i am back Saigon. i
have not tested for the last 6 months. it is hard to convince a
girl that condom is good for her. this is the point you should go
traight to the youth. have you faced a read experience in life that
you want to use the rubber plastic but she refuse; she will tell
you that that thing turns she off or "if you dont trust me", or
"what you think of me".... this is what the "no mistake" boy
like me would like to listen.
