Dr. John walking the roads of Central Malaysia in search of migrant field workers.

Dr. John greets a migrant pineapple worker passing out cards in Malaysian regarding HIV transmission.

Along the road, Dr. John stopped to talk with young teens. He said, "This group listened for ten minutes then bombarded me with a zillion questions. Like many Asian youth I encountered, they look younger than they are. Two of the boys had already begun sex -- going to prostitutes with older family members. None had heard about AIDS."

In many areas of the world, and also in some Muslim cultures, TVs (transvestites) are harassed but also "tolerated" by the local police. Young male clients told Dr. John they liked the "girlie-boys" because they were cheaper.

PeerCorps volunteer took Dr. John to the drug dens of Johor Bahru to explain the danger from sharing needles. Did it help? With addicted users, there's no way of knowing, but as Zahrin said, "It can't hurt."

Peercorps volunteer and Malaysia guide Zahrin talks to his girlfriend Suzie about AIDS prevention and why he believes in helping Dr. John. Her younger sister joined PeerCorps too.
