My name is Guillermo Porras, I am an infectious diseases practitioner and I have been working with people living with HIV'AIDS since 1988 when I was a medical student at the University in Leon. Currently, I am working in two private hospitals in Nicaragua - Hospital Metropolitano and Hospital Bautista. We are providing care to PLWHA in an ambulatory way completely free of charges in the Hospital Bautista, and we work with Dr. Carlos Quant. Dr. Quant is another Infectious diseases practitioner that works at a public hospital.

I first heard of Dr. Guillermo Porras after my volunteer Gimeana Suarez searched the internet for AIDS research in Nicaragua. He responded immediately. I first met him at the airport and later he introduced me to his hospital and Dr. Quant where I visited with young people living with HIV/AIDS. Guillermo took considerable time off from work to drive me around and was available for translating the more scientific terms into Spanish that my teen volunteer translators could not. Guillermo is a really fun guy who is dedicated to AIDS work and his niece and nephew, Ana and Luis, two great volunteers and new PeerCorps members. He is an excellent addition to the GAC.
