
Alan Hassenfeld is Chairman of the Board of Hasbro, Inc., as well as a Board Member of the companyís two philanthropic divisions, the Hasbro Charitable Trust and the Hasbro Childrenís Foundation.
In 1970, Mr. Hassenfeld began his career at Hasbro as the Assistant to the President. He was then appointed to Vice President of International Operations in 1972, followed by Vice President of Marketing and Sales in 1978 and then Executive Vice President in 1980. Mr. Hassenfeld became the President of the company in 1984, and received the titles of Chairman and CEO in 1989. In May 2003, he passed on the responsibilities of CEO to Mr. Alfred Verrecchia, in order to fully concentrate on his position as Chairman.
Mr. Hassenfeld is a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, Deerfield Academy, Miriam Hospital in Rhode Island and the National Conference of Christians and Jews for the Rhode Island and Southeastern New England region. He is Trustee Emeritus for Brown University and Bryant College. He serves as a director of Refugees International, and the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island. Mr. Hassenfeld is a Board Member of Big Brothers of R.I., and the Foundations of the Milken Families. He is the former Chairman of the Right Now! Coalition and Admiral of Rhode Island Commodores (a governor-appointed business advisory group).
Mr. Hassenfeld has received the PARI Award for Outstanding Community Service, the R.I. Citizen of the Year 2002 Award from The March of Dimes, the Award for Outstanding Contribution in Refugee Resettlement, the Excellence in Family Business Management Award by the Bryant College Institute for Family Enterprise, the Community Service Award by the Rhode Island section of the National Council of Jewish Women, the Brotherhood Award by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Never Again Award by the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island, the Big Brothers "Cy" Killian Humanitarian Award, the National Humanitarian Award presented by NJH/NAC, and the Outstanding Young American Award in both 1982 and 1983 and the Power of Good Humanitarian Award from the Institute for International Sport.
In 1994 he was inducted into the Toy Manufacturers of America Hall of Fame.
Mr. Hassenfeld is the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the Honorary Doctor of Humanities Award from Bryant College and the Honorary Doctor of Business degree from Roger Williams University and Johnson and Wales University.
